About Us

Our School

Our Lady of Fatima is a Catholic Elementary School in Calgary, Alberta. We serve students from Kindergarten  to Grade 6 in the Taradale/Martindale area.

Our school’s vision statement is, Where talents shine and students excel. We are so proud of all our students and have a deep commitment to helping them achieve their potential: academically, socially, and spiritually. Through a strong partnership with our Parish St. Thomas More and our students' parents, we demonstrate a continued dedication to creating lifelong learners who embody the Gospel teachings in their words, thoughts, and actions. We are so grateful for the continued support we receive from our wonderful parents through their participation in School Council, classroom volunteering, and contributions to our Community of Caring projects.

Our Lady of Fatima

Our school is named after the apparitions of The Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared six times to three shepherd children; Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta; near the town of Fatima, Portugal between May 13 and October 13, 1917. She appeared to the children dressed in white and as radiant as the sun. She held a rosary in her hand and asked them to pray "the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war".

For her last apparition on October 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary promised a miracle so that all would believe. A huge crowd gathered at the Cova da Iria and witnessed what is now known as the "Miracle of the Sun". Those who were there spoke of the sun changing colours and rotating like a wheel, saying that the sun “danced” in the sky.

Our school continues to honour the request of the Blessed Virgin Mary by praying as a school community every day, praying the rosary and re-enacting the story of the three shepherd children during our “Our Lady of Fatima Celebration” in May.
